Mr. Glenn Brown, a Second World War Veteran, is well-known in the Peterborough Veteran's community. Mr. Brown is an extremely active member of The Royal Canadian Legion where he is an avid supporter of the annual Poppy Campaign. He is committed to visiting local schools to speak to students and other youth groups about his wartime experiences. Recently, Mr. Brown played a key role in the fundraising campaign to retain Corporal Fred Topham's Victoria Cross. Together with the 428 Wing Air Force Association, Naval Association, his local Legion Branch and the County and City Councils, Mr. Brown raised over $10,000, and because of those efforts, the Topham medals remain in Canada today. Mr. Brown spends much of his time helping his fellow comrades in the Peterborough community to enjoy their golden years. In recognition of his efforts to raise more than $40,000 to purchase a wheelchair accessible bus, Mr. Brown is a recipient of the Canada 125 Medal. He is also founder of the Peterborough Disaster Fund, which arranges temporary lodging for those whose homes have been destroyed. In addition, Mr. Brown served on a committee to raise funds to build the Donwood Community Centre, a venue that hosts a number of events for local seniors.
