Mr. Gordon Fergus is a retired member of the British Forces and the Canadian Armed Forces. Shortly after retirement, he joined the Royal Canadian Legion and became immediately involved with the day-to-day activities. During his time, he has filled all of the executive positions at various points, including five terms as the branch president. He has also filled in as sergeant-at-arms and parade marshal for the annual Remembrance Day ceremonies. Mr. Fergus is readily available to assist the Branch’s Service Officer, a great benefit due to his familiarity with military processes. Mr. Fergus also served as the Branch chaplain for a number of years. One of his duties in this position was being a member of the Honour Guard, which ensures Veterans who pass away are given an honourable and respectful military-style funeral, if they desire. This duty was always very well received by grieving family members.
Mr. Fergus is currently engaged in transforming the redundant smoke-free room in the Legion’s lounge into a military museum. The museum is stocked with items gathered from friends and members and found combing local thrift stores. The museum has been well received and has been used as an educational tool for children and grandchildren of Veterans, who might not be familiar with their family member’s service.
