Gordon Jenkins

Mr. Jenkins retired from the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps as a major in 1971. During his second career as treasurer of the Department of Public Works, he was directly involved with all national monument and war memorial funding, including the renovation of Canada's National War Memorial. Mr. Jenkins founded the Tunis Shriners Legion of Honour'a Shriners Veterans' association'and led its recruitment and subsequent participation in Year of the Veteran events in 2005. He established annual Legion of Honour Memorial parades and a sunset ceremony at Beechwood Cemetery. Mr. Jenkins also led the Tunis Legion of Honour to join the International Association of Legions of Honour and has led the Canadian Veterans' contingent to annual memorial services in Arlington, Washington. For his leadership, the international association awarded him the 2006 Distinguished Service Award'the first time a Canadian Veteran has been awarded this distinction. Mr. Jenkins is a member of the Friends of the Canadian War Museum as the Veterans Volunteer Coordinator of the Museum.
