Gordon McLeod

Mr. McLeod is a Veteran of the Royal Canadian Air Force who served 31 years before retiring in 1981 as a sergeant. As a boy, Mr. McLeod witnessed the aftermath of a tragic military plane crash on Dalhousie Mountain in Pictou county, Nova Scotia. Four Canadian airmen lost their lives, along with the Australian pilot. With a keen interest in preserving local history, Mr. McLeod has worked tirelessly to collect information about the victims and testimonials from witnesses, to ensure the incident is not forgotten. On August 10, 2008, 66 years after the crash, Mr. McLeod's efforts were realized and an engraved memorial was erected on Dalhousie Mountain. The unveiling ceremony was well attended, and included family members of the late crew members. Mr. McLeod is a long-time member of Pictou Branch of The Royal Canadian Legion, where he participates in all the commemorative events.
