Greg Garratt is a Veteran of the Royal Canadian Navy. He is nominated for his work with the Métis Nation of Ontario Veterans’ Council.
He sat as Sergeant-at-Arms for the Métis Nation of Ontario Veterans’ Council. He helped organize Aboriginal Veterans Day at Camp Borden for many years. He liaised with the Commanding Officer of the base to ensure the council was part of the event. He also participated as a member of the colour party and often spoke to civilians to raise the profile of Métis Veterans.
From 2012-2019, he has served as the Secretary/Treasurer of the council. In this role, he was responsible for managing an annual budget of around $30,000.
He recently withdrew from the Veterans’ Council to become President of the Georgian Bay Métis Council. Despite this, he continues to advocate on behalf of Métis Veterans. His area has the highest concentration of Métis in Ontario and a significant number of Métis Veterans.
