A Veteran of the Canadian Forces with service in Korea, Mr. Ferguson joined the Prince Edward Branch No. 91 of The Royal Canadian Legion (RCL) in 1971. The following year, Mr. Ferguson served on the Branch's Building Committee, successfully raising funds to build a new Auditorium. In 2002, Mr. Ferguson coordinated the Branch's 75th Anniversary celebrations, which included a Candlelight Ceremony at the Veterans Park. Active in several committees, Mr. Ferguson works at social functions and volunteers on the Legion's Poppy Campaign to raise funds. He has helped the Lions Club raise funds and put together Christmas Hampers for needy families. Mr. Ferguson has worked hundreds of hours assisting Branch 91's Ladies Auxiliary, helping its members with catering and other duties, enabling them to raise thousands of dollars toward the Branch and their own organization. Mr. Ferguson is currently Chairman of the Western Communities Remembrance Day Committee. He is committed to perpetuating the memory of Veterans' achievements and contributions, and visits schools and other youth groups to speak about the importance of their sacrifice. In addition to his involvement with the Legion, Mr. Ferguson joined the Metchosin Lions Club in May 1981, and over the years, has served as its Secretary, Director, Treasurer and President. During this period, he oversaw several projects including the building of ramps for wheelchair patients. Mr. Ferguson has been cited for his numerous contributions to Veterans and local youth and is considered a pillar of his community.
