Harold Holland

Peterborough, Ontario

Mr. Holland enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1949 and he saw action with 1st Battalion Royal Canadian Regiment (Airborne) in Korea. Following an honourable discharge, he joined the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 52 which he has served with tremendous dedication through the years. He has served in various capacities including Branch President and he has served on numerous committees including Chair of the Sick and Visiting Committee. Despite his advancing age, he still manages to visit up to 100 Veterans per month in hospitals, nursing homes, and in their homes. He is a recipient of the Legion’s Meritorious Service Medal and he is a Life Member. Among his other achievements, Mr. Holland is founder and Past President of Unit 8 Korea Veterans Association and he has assisted in organizing reunions and special events. Working almost singlehandedly, he raised over $20,000 from local businesses and Veterans groups which was used to install a four-sided bronze Memorial Plaque at the Veterans’ Plot in Little Lake Cemetery to mark the final resting places of those who had served their country in both times of war and peace. In recognition of his service to his community, Mr. Holland was presented with the Gordon and Arby Holenbeck Award.
