Harry Quarton

Mr. Quarton is a Second World War Veteran and retired Lieutenant-Colonel. He served as Senior Aide de Camp to five Lieutenant Governors of Alberta for 22 years. Mr. Quarton has been active in numerous service clubs and military organizations over the years including: president and life member of the Edmonton United Services Institute; vice president of the Military Institutes of Canada; The Royal Canadian Legion member; member of the National Council of Veteran Associations; president of the 19th Alberta Dragoons Association; and president of the South Alberta Regiment (SAR) Veterans Association. Since taking over as president of the SAR Veterans Association in 1994, Mr. Quarton has led eight pilgrimages to Europe to dedicate memorial plaques to the regiment’s war dead. He also led a group of 30 on a battlefield tour in Europe and attended the Vimy rededication ceremony in April, 2007. Mr. Quarton played a leadership role in securing his regiment’s Colours and Battle Honours in 1995 –a distinction that had been denied for more than 50 years. He also managed the fundraising and publishing of the regiment's wartime history, “South Albertas: A Canadian Regiment at War in 1998,” which is now in its third printing. Mr. Quarton is the recipient of numerous honours and awards including the Alberta Centennial Medal, the French Legion of Honour, Queen’s Silver and Golden Jubilees and the Canadian Centennial Medal.
