Hedley Smith

Mr. Smith is a retired Canadian Forces Veteran. As an active member of The Royal Canadian Legion (RCL) Corner Brook Branch, Mr. Smith has held every executive position within the Branch, as well as having held every executive position in the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Command. He supported the Western Memorial Hospital Foundation as a Legion committee member and has helped the committee to raise in excess of $300,000 for the Foundation. Mr. Smith is a member of the Sick and Visiting Committee, where he visits Veterans on a weekly basis in the Veterans’ Wing of the Long Term Care Centre and in their homes. As a member of the Sick and Visiting Committee, Mr. Smith ensures that Veterans receive a celebratory cake on their birthday, a gesture deeply appreciated by the Veterans. He worked to raise the funds to purchase a bus for the Veterans of the Long Term Care Centre. Mr. Smith is a Life member of the abbr title="Royal Canadian Legion">RCL and has served as the Poppy Campaign Chair for the Corner Brook Branch on numerous occasions. During Veterans’ Week he visits local schools to help young Canadians learn about the sacrifice and contribution of Veterans. As further demonstration of his commitment and dedication, Mr. Smith is responsible for the Legion’s participation in the local Winter Carnival, organizing and planning all aspects of their involvement.
