Mrs. Hilda Harris is the spouse of a Veteran who served in the British Army. She immigrated from her native Wales to Canada in 1948 and she and her husband are now both Canadian citizens. Mr. Harris has been a resident of K Wing at Sunnybrook Hospital since 1994 and as result, she has become a dedicated volunteer through the Red Cross at Sunnybrook. The hospital considers Mrs. Harris to be one of the most valued volunteers at Sunnybrook, where she donates her time and services almost every day. Among her many services, Mrs. Harris assists Veterans, serves refreshments in the Warriors Hall, welcomes newcomers and their families to the Wing and provides valuable assistance with the transition to long-term care. After the Jewish Chapel was constructed at Sunnybrook, Mrs. Harris took on the responsibility of sexton, ensuring that Veterans present at the Chapel's services have the necessary prayer materials. Mrs. Harris also frequently visits bed-ridden patients unable to attend church services and social events. Luncheons, holiday dinners and most Jewish holiday celebrations at Sunnybrook are arranged by Mrs. Harris.
