The Honourable Gilles Lamontagne

The Honourable Gilles Lamontagne is a Second World War Veteran and a well-known figure in Canadian politics. He was elected Mayor of Québec from 1965 to 1977, and was Postmaster General from 1979 to 1980. He was Minister of National Defence from 1980 to 1984, and also acted as Minister of Veterans Affairs for one year during that same time (1980 to 1981). Mr. Lamontagne was Lieutenant Governor of Quebec from 1984 to 1990. He actively participates in commemorative events organized in his community and throughout the province of Quebec. By visiting schools and by means of special projects such as La force francophone and Des Héros se racontent (Heroes Remember), Mr. Lamontagne has contributed in an exemplary way to commemorating the sacrifices and achievements of Veterans and still serving members of the Canadian Forces. Mr. Lamontagne has shown an abiding dedication to his comrades and he is well-respected in the military community.
