HooJung Jones

Ancaster, Ontario

Ms. Jones is a graduate of McMaster University, who has volunteered much of her time working on behalf of Veterans and cultural activities in Canada. She is an honourary member of the Korea Veterans Association of Canada and, as assistant webmaster of the association's national Web site, she devotes many hours per month maintaining the Web site’s requirements. Ms. Jones is co author of Canadians Our Heroes 1950 1953 Korean War, an English Korean book, and she was instrumental in fundraising to have the book distributed to schools, libraries and museums in Canada. She has organized numerous commemorative events honouring Canadians who served in the Korean War. As director of Friends of HMCS Haida, Ms. Jones is a key participant in its school visit program, which ensures Second World War and Korean War Veterans have the opportunity to visit local high schools and speak to students. Ms. Jones is a past president of the Hamilton Folk Arts Heritage Council, which organizes the Multi-Cultural Canada Day Festival attracting more than 100,000 spectators annually. Ms. Jones has received many awards for her dedicated volunteer work, including the prestigious “Legion of Honour” award from the Chapel of Four Chaplains.
