A Second World War Veteran, Mr. Buzzell was a trumpeter in the Army and, from 1942 to 1946, entertained troops preparing for duty. A member of the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals Band until his retirement in 1969, he travelled across Canada with the Armed Forces Tattoo. Mr. Buzzell provides entertainment and teaches music to seniors at nursing homes. For the past 36 years, Mr. Buzzell has been faithfully playing the Last Post at the local Remembrance Day ceremony and has been actively involved in all aspects of local Remembrance Day activities. He also plays Last Post for his comrades at The Royal Canadian Legion's Branch. In addition to performing for his peers, Mr. Buzzell has been a volunteer of the Peterborough Health Centre for the past eight years, where he assists patients in the Diagnostic Imaging Department who are awaiting procedures. For more than 15 years, Mr. Buzzell volunteered his time to the Cancer Society, driving patients to their treatment from Peterborough to Toronto or to Kingston. Mr. Buzzell is a caring and compassionate individual who takes the time to ensure that the patients he drives to and from medical appointments are comfortable. Those who have benefited from his generosity know him to be genuinely dedicated and compassionate. Mr. Buzzell is well-known for his commitment to community service, and his contribution to the well-being of Veterans serves as an outstanding example to all.
