James Stanton

Mr. Stanton is a retired Canadian Forces Veteran. While living in Vancouver, he served as the President of the Royal United Services Institute of Vancouver and is the founding director of the Honour House Society. The Honour House Society project involves the development of hostels for the families of Veterans sent to Vancouver for medical treatment and two additional programs designed to support the return of soldiers to civilian life. Mr. Stanton was a member of the City of Vancouver Remembrance Day Committee, The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #30, The BC Regiment Association, and the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry Association, among others. Mr. Stanton led the campaign to have Vancouver adorn its street names in the vicinity of Victory Square with the Flanders Poppy insignia, and he is continuing the campaign to have the same treatment applied to those street names throughout the Lower Mainland of British Columbia that commemorate Canadian military engagements. He initiated the Royal United Services Institute Community Certificate of Appreciation, which is presented to all members of Lower Mainland reserve units upon their return from active service.
