Jasmine McGuin

Miss Jasmine McGuin is a 17-year-old student from St. Mary High School. In 2008, at the age of 14, Miss McGuin composed a song entitled “Man of the War” for an assignment on the importance of Remembrance Day in her Christian ethics class. The song became an instant local hit and she won first prize in a local talent competition. Since that time, Miss McGuin has performed her song for fellow students, youth and families in her community and at local commemorative events. Impressed by her song, international recording artist and a past recipient of the Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation, Mr. John McDermott invited Miss McGuin to share the stage with him. Her YouTube page reaches thousands and demonstrates the pride we share for our Veterans and those currently serving in uniform. In 2010, Miss McGuin performed “Man of the War” at the Canadian National Vimy Memorial in France during a student trip to mark the anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge. She also received a $10,000 grant from Rawlco Radio to record an album which is near completion. Miss McGuin is an insightful and mature young person, who at a young age has only just begun to keep the torch of remembrance burning.
