Mr. Dutil is a Veteran of the Second World War. He actively participates in Veterans' Week activities, and has represented the Merchant Navy as part of the overseas delegations to mark the anniversaries of Beaumont-Hamel in 2006 and the Battle of Vimy Ridge in 2007. Mr. Dutil is also involved in the annual Battle of the Atlantic ceremony in his region. He is a member of numerous Veterans Organizations as well as a number of service clubs. Through fundraising efforts and speaking to many provincial and federal government officials, Mr. Dutil was successful in having a monument erected honouring Second World War Merchant Marines. Whenever he can, Mr. Dutil assists Veterans with their pension applications to ensure they receive all the benefits to which they are entitled.
