Mr. Jean St-Laurent is a retired member of the Canadian Forces having served in the Reserves. He has been a member of the Royal Canadian Legion since 1971 and has been on the executive committee of the Baie-Comeau Branch since 1987. He is responsible for public relations and for the Poppy Campaign. Often, he can be seen visiting his comrades in long term care facilities or in their homes if they are confined there. In 2004, Mr. St-Laurent became president of his branch and assistant commander of the Saguenay - Lac-Saint-Jean District where he brought the Poppy Campaign to more isolated regions so that proceeds could be fairly distributed for the well being of Veterans. For 35 years, Mr. St-Laurent has been a member of the Canadian Aviation Association and is involved in activities aimed at educating youth on Canada=s military history. He was named a Knight of the Order of Saint John for his work in first aid training and for his efforts in assisting Veterans in his region.
