Jean Thériault

Mr. Thériault served in the Canadian Forces Primary Reserve with the Fusiliers du St-Laurent from 1956 to 1970, and obtained the rank of warrant officer. He is also a retired police captain, who served 37 years in the city of Rimouski. He has been an active member of The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #36 (Joseph Kaeble VC MM), for more than 35 years, fulfilling numerous committee roles on the Executive. Mr. Thériault is presently Commander for District #2 (Bas-Saint-Laurent) of the Legion and past president of Branch #36. He was first vice-president of the Quebec Command and represented Quebec at Dominion Command. He is a lifetime member of The Royal Canadian Legion. For more than 15 years, Mr. Thériault has been Service Officer for Branch #36. He is a recipient of the Legion's Meritorious Service Medal for his outstanding service. He has been involved with the organization of numerous commemorative ceremonies over the years, including Remembrance Day ceremonies in several local communities; the 50th anniversaries of the Battle of the Atlantic in 1993 and D Day in 1994; the 65th anniversary of D Day in 2009; the commemoration ceremony to honour Veterans during the 2009 Memorial Cup in Rimouski, and the 100th anniversary of Joseph Kaeble's birth in Sayabec in 1992. Mr. Thériault visits ailing Veterans in their homes, hospitals, and long-term care residences and attends funeral services for comrades. He has been interviewed by local media and shares stories with local school children during Veterans' Week. Mr. Thériault is a member of the Navy League of Canada and received a medal for his service to the League. He has also received the Centennial Medal of Canada and the Queen's Jubilee medal, among others.
