Honorary Captain Jeffrey Topping is a dedicated volunteer with the Friends of HMCS Haida, The Royal Canadian Legion and the Naval Association of Canada. Since 2014, he has passionately served as a volunteer tour guide aboard the historic ship, and for the past three years, he has held the roles of president and chair of the board of directors. Under his leadership, the organization remains focused on its mission: “to preserve, protect and promote the history of Canada’s most famous warship.”
A history enthusiast with a personal connection—his grandfather served on HMCS Haida during World War II—Jeffrey shares the ship's rich history with all visitors, including dignitaries, Royal Canadian Navy leaders and Veterans. He warmly welcomes new recruits from HMCS Star and previously hosted local sea cadet corps for training weekends.
Throughout the pandemic, Jeffrey kept his team of mostly Veterans engaged by organizing virtual events and moving the museum gift shop online. Additionally, as a member of The Royal Canadian Legion, he serves as the poppy captain, promoting participation in the Poppy Campaign. Recently, he joined the Naval Association of Canada board as treasurer.
