Ms. McFarlane is an employee with the Department of National Defence, and she volunteers her time to help commemorate Veterans. Ms. McFarlane was the co-ordinator of the candlelight tribute at God’s Acre Veterans Cemetery in 2011, where she organized the ushers, ensured that the ceremony proceeded smoothly and that guests were seated and recognized properly. Ms. McFarlane volunteers for the learning event held at the Royal British Columbia Museum from November 5th to the 11th. On Remembrance Day, she processes more than 1,000 visitors through the Veterans’ exhibit area and obtains a photo for each participant. Ms. McFarlane advertises and contacts local schools in the greater Victoria area to provide information on the Remembrance Week program at the Royal British Columbia Museum, which is held in conjunction with Veterans Affairs Canada.
