Jim Harris

Mr. Harris is a retired Canadian Forces Veteran. He is the registrar of retired Canadian Military Engineers, maintaining a large national membership database, which keeps members informed of upcoming events and he assists on a committee for annual reunions as well as a committee to visit those who are sick and hospitalized. Mr. Harris is the founding member and president of the Canadian Forces Base Chilliwack Historical Society, which keeps alive the legacy of the base and its soldiers. As a well respected military historian, Mr. Harris provides expert knowledge to families who are researching their military genealogy. He is also a research assistant for the Canadian Forces Military Engineer Museum in Gagetown, New Brunswick. Since 2002, Mr. Harris has organized Veterans' Week events for the Chilliwack School District. More than 1200 students attend these events, which are 4 to 5 days long and feature interactive displays and opportunities for Veterans to share their stories with youth. Other school-oriented events include the annual Canada Remembers event in Vancouver, where Mr. Harris provides extensive military displays and participates in fire side chats with children. Mr. Harris has organized the annual Peace Keepers Day event, "Support the Troops" rallies, and the "Veterans Appreciation" outing for local Veterans who are confined in their homes. Mr. Harris is a volunteer historical consultant for the Legacy Trail Project and the All Sappers Memorial Park project.
