Mr. Abernethy is a Veteran of the Second World War. A successful business man following the war, Mr. Abernethy continued to offer unselfish service to his community. Not only has he served in various capacities at his church and many community-based organizations in Bowmanville, but he has heavily engaged local youth in the act of remembrance. Mr. Abernethy is still active with the Bowmanville Sea Cadets and has served in many capacities with the Bowmanville Legion. He visits school children to help them understand the sacrifices of Canada's Veterans and our service men and women. Mr. Abernethy is a long-standing member of the Royal Arch Masons and has fulfilled many leadership roles and provided assistance to widows of members. Mr. Albernethy is also a recipient of the Queen's Jubilee medal and is a Life Member of The Royal Canadian Legion and the Navy League of Canada.
