Mr. Gardam serves on three boards at the Perley Rideau Veterans Health Centre and is Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Association of Veterans in United Nations Peacekeeping. He has been a loyal member of The Royal Canadian Legion for the past twenty-one years. As a Service Officer of The Liaison Association of War Veterans, Mr. Gardam has been successful in assisting Veterans with their pension claims and helping them apply for Veterans Affairs benefits and services. In 1996, he was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for his outstanding leadership of the Canada Remembers program at the Department of National Defence and he subsequently played a significant role in the creation of the Canadian Peacekeeping Monument in Ottawa. A military historian, Mr. Gardam has published a number of books, many based on oral history. Proceeds from the sale of these books support Veterans Health Sciences facilities in the Ottawa area.
