John Jewitt

Mr. Jewitt is a non-status Ojibwa Indian. He served for 30 years in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF). Since 2004, he has been a strong and devoted member of the Defense Aboriginal Advisory Group (DAAG) in the National Capital Region. In this role, Mr. Jewitt has been involved in various projects, including the development of the NCR DAAG Terms of Reference. When requested, Mr. Jewitt has accepted the role of Head Veteran for the Odawa Native Friendship Centre’s sponsored events. He has been involved with all Centre-related Veteran activities and has been the cornerstone for ceremonies at the Aboriginal Cenotaph in Ottawa. Mr. Jewitt has devoted countless hours ensuring that Veterans and their families are aware of changes to policies and benefits. He provides sage advice and experience with respect to organizing and coordinating Aboriginal-related ceremonies or events hosted by the Department of National Defence (DND) or CAF. Mr. Jewitt’s dedication to Veterans’ concerns and his ability to offer sound recommendations has enabled him to establish an excellent rapport with government agencies in the National Capital Region, including Veterans Affairs Canada and DND.
