John Rigo

Mount Hope, Ontario

Mr. Rigo is a Veteran of the Korean War. He is a member of the HMCS Huron Association, where he is the honorary padre, the Korean Veterans Association in Ottawa, and The Royal Canadian Legion in Haberville. He is very active in commemorating Veterans, and attends services for Veterans to promote the sacrifice of those who have died, as well as other events held by the associations of which he is a member. Mr. Rigo has volunteered in the past as a tour guide on the HMCS Haida in order to share the history of the ship with visitors. He has responded to letters from students informing them about himself and the legacies of Veterans. On Remembrance Day, he attends the ceremony in Ottawa and explains the cenotaph and the Tomb of The Unknown Soldier to other attendees. Mr. Rigo assists Veterans in applying for pension and VIP benefits. He invited a Service Officer from the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #163 to his community complex to speak with the numerous Veterans who reside there.
