John Sargeant

Mr. Sargeant is a former member of the Cadet Corps of Canada. In 2002, he began researching the history of his uncle, Jesse Sargeant, who served with the 21st Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force. During the process, Mr. Sargeant began connecting with family members of others who had served in the Battalion. Discerning an interest and need, he created the online forum, the 21sters Yahoo Group, allowing people to connect and share information. Still active, the group has a membership of 208, with Mr. Sargeant serving as the moderator of the community. He is also a strong supporter of the 21st Battalion website. Currently, Mr. Sargeant is the Secretary-General of the General Sir Arthur Currie Memorial Project Committee, which raised sufficient funds to install a statue of Sir Arthur Currie in Currie’s hometown of Strathroy, Ontario. He was in charge of organizing fundraising events for this project and serves as webmaster for its website. He was also the driving force behind the installation of a plaque, located at Sir Arthur Currie’s boyhood home, in Adelaide–Metcalfe Township. Mr. Sargeant is currently working on a survey of the cenotaphs, honour rolls and memorial plaques of Middlesex County.
