John Scott (Posthumous)

Mr. Scott was a retired Canadian Forces Veteran who served with the United Nations and NATO. He was an active member of The Royal Canadian Legion since 1977. He escorted hundreds of school children who visited his Legion branch each year during Veterans' Week and readily participated in annual Remembrance Day ceremonies. Mr. Scott served on and raised funds for the Legion's Monument of Honour Committee, which constructed a monument to recognize uniformed Veterans. Mr. Scott also raised funds for a project he personally initiated, whereby he identified where thousands of local Veterans were laid to rest in cemeteries. He identified each grave site by placing a personally-made iron cross at the head of the site, along with the flag of the country in which each Veteran served. This project garnered heavy local media attention and has inspired similar projects in other communities.
