John Thompson joined the Royal Air Force and served as a welder in a radio engineering Unit. He and his family immigrated to Canada in 1967. Mr. Thompson has been a dedicated member of the Assiniboia Unit #283 of the Army, Navy & Air Force Veterans in Canada for more than 35 years. He served on the executive of his Unit for 11 years before moving up to served at his Provincial Command as Sports officer, Vice President and Provincial President over a nine year span. He has served as a Vice President of the Dominion Command for over 13 years and in September 2006, he was elected President of the Dominion Command. In recognition of his steadfast commitment to serving Canada’s Veterans, Mr. Thompson has received the Award of Merit, ANAVETS highest award, as well as the American Legion Friendship Award, the Queen’s Coronation Medal, the Canada 125th Anniversary of Confederation Medal and the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal.
