Joseph G. Sparrow

A Veteran of the Second World War, Mr. Sparrow continues to assist numerous Veterans and their surviving spouses in every way possible to ensure they are receiving benefits and services to which they are entitled. Mr. Sparrow is a Life Member of Branch 40 of the Royal Canadian Legion and he has served in many capacities on the Executive including President and Secretary. He was also Cape Breton Distric Commander as well as Zone Commander for three consecutive terms. At the Provincial Command, he was Poppy Chairman as well as the Chairman of the Resolution Committee and the Leadership and Development Committee. In Branch 2 of the Legion, Mr. Sparrow currently serves as 1st Vice President of the “Doctor Cecil John Sparrow Memorial,” a memorial named after his late father. For the past 20 years, he has been President of the Cape Breton District Comfort Fund which represents twenty-nine Legion Branches and three units of ANAVETS. Mr. Sparrow is very active in his community, devoting time to the Glace Bay Pensioners Club, the Holy Family Parish Council, and the Canadian Cancer Society. In addition, he speaks to many school children during Veterans’ Week.
