Mrs. Selkirk is a Veteran of the Second World War who served in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Actively involved in the promotion of Veterans issues, she has been a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for over 60 years. During that time, Mrs. Selkirk has served on the Executive in many capacities including, Secretary for Provincial Conventions, Provincial Secretary, Zone Secretary, Secretary for National Track & Field Championships and for many years, assisted with the annual Poppy Campaign. A strong believer in the importance of honouring the sacrifices of Canada's Veterans, Mrs. Selkirk has written articles for Legion Magazine and other publications. In addition to organizing annual Vimy dinners, she has organized social and commemorative events for the local Legion, helped with countless fund-raising activities and welcomed new Canadians as part of the Legion's citizenship committee. Mrs. Selkirk was awarded Life Membership, the Meritorious Service Medal, and the Palm Leaf Award'the Legion's highest award. In 1999, she was named Legionnaire of the Year for her local branch.
