Karen Storwick

Inspired by the death of her great-uncle in Italy during the Second World War, Ms. Storwick has a passion to honour and promote the welfare of Canadian Veterans as a volunteer. Through her involvement with battlefield tours and pilgrimages with Special Travel International in Vancouver, Ms. Storwick has co-organized five tours to revisit the Italian Campaign. During the first four tours between 2006 and 2009, Ms. Storwick was responsible for four commemorative plaques being unveiled in different locations in Italy. She raised funds to ensure ten Veterans could be sent to Italy in 2009 to commemorate the Italian Campaign. She is currently working on a fifth plaque commemorating the Christmas dinner in Ortona on December 25, 1943, which will be unveiled during a May 2013 pilgrimage. Ms. Storwick has volunteered countless hours at Calgary’s Military Museum, where she has raised funds for the museum’s new art gallery, which produced the legacy project entitled "Mural of Honour." The mural includes 240 individual paintings and is permanently installed at the entrance. Ms. Storwick has a video library with more than 70 hours of interviews with Second World War and Korean War Veterans.
