Mr. Metcalfe is a Veteran of the Second World War. He has been a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for over 50 years and has served on executive committees for the past 22 years. He currently holds the positions of Sergeant-at-Arms, Seniors Officer, and Veterans Service Officer for Branch 424 in Bala. Mr. Metcalfe has been awarded the Legion’s Meritorious Service Medal, the District of Muskoka’s Volunteer of the Year Award and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal for service to his community. He is currently involved with a local meals-on-wheels program, a ride program which shuttles Veterans to hospitals and visits home-bound seniors. During Veterans’ Week, he is often a guest speaker at local elementary schools and participates in his branch’s poster and literary contest awards presentation.
