Kenneth Nixon has volunteered with both the Royal Canadian Air Force Association, the Royal Canadian Air Cadets and the Air Force Museum Society of Alberta for a number of years.
With 783 Calgary Wing of the Royal Canadian Air Force Association, he has held various positions within the executive since September 2000. These include president, secretary, and 1st and 2nd vice-president. He has also served as treasurer of both his wing and Alberta’s provincial body of the association.
With the Royal Canadian Air Cadets, he served as commanding officer of 604 Squadron for five years and of 52 Squadron for 3 years. He has also served as the “effective speaking chair” of the Southern Wing since 2004 and as the “director of effective speaking” for the Alberta Provincial Committee since 2019. His work with both the wing and cadet corps has helped him engage with local youth and be a connection point between them and Veterans.
He is an original director of the Air Force Museum Society of Alberta and has served as the casino chairperson since 2009. His work with this organization has helped preserve the rich history of the Royal Canadian Air Force.
He is also involved with the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 285. He has served as the cadet liaison, the chairperson and as a trustee. During the difficult period when the branch went into trusteeship, he ensured the branch continued its operations.
Mr. Nixon is also volunteers as a bookkeeper with the Veteran’s food bank.
