Kyle Austin Scott

Whitecourt, Alberta

Mr. Kyle Austin Scott is a Veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces. Mr. Scott is very open about his experiences with post-traumatic stress disorder and is always willing to speak with groups. He uses his experience to promote awareness of the important issues facing Veterans, to advocate for Veterans, and to promote community involvement. Mr. Scott has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion for approximately ten years. He has held the positions of sergeant-at-arms and 1st vice-president, and is now the president of his branch. His focus at the Legion has centred on the recruitment of new members as well as expanding the branch’s reach within the community to help Veterans and youth alike. He has been active in the annual poppy campaign, promoting awareness of, not only the Legion, but other charities that benefit from the program. Mr. Scott is also very dedicated to remembrance and commemoration. He has organized many public memorials and brings the community together to maintain headstones at the local cemetery before Canada Day and Veterans’ Week. He has also worked with Veterans Affairs Canada and the Commonwealth War Graves Commission to have broken and worn headstones of First and Second World War Veterans replaced. Mr. Scott is presently working with the municipality to replace street signs that contain Veterans’ names with newly designed signs marked with a poppy, ensuring the names of the service men and women are recognized as such. Mr. Scott was also instrumental in securing the Canada 150 grant to be used to fund the painting of a mural on the side of the Legion, depicting generations of Veterans throughout history. Mr. Scott has also devoted his time to helping order and interpret service documents, create shadow boxes and, on two recent memorial tours, photographing gravestones of the fallen for family members who were unable to attend. He is also the Legion representative for the Cubs and Scouts and volunteers with Army and Air Cadets.
