Drumheller, Alberta
Sub-Lieutenant (Ret’d) Coney was a serving member of the Canadian Armed Forces who works with Sea Cadets. Mr. Coney is a member of The Royal Canadian Legion and has held the positions of president and service officer for his local branch. Mr. Coney’s dedication to remembrance has led him to build a cairn in the Drumheller Cemetery to honour the Veterans buried there as well as to mark the Field of Honour. In his spare time, he visits Veterans in his hometown, mounts their medals free of charge, and takes his extensive collection of military artefacts to schools and youth groups to educate them about Veterans and military history. Mr. Coney is not only active in supporting Veterans in his own hometown, but has also been active in helping the Veteran community in Dalum, Alberta. For the past four years, he has set up a Remembrance Day service in Dalum and has organized the service by printing programs, finding guest speakers and often speaking himself. Mr. Coney is helping to set up an honour roll for the Dalum area, and is currently helping to design a cenotaph or cairn for the community.
