Larry Shoebridge

Belleville, Ontario

Mr. Shoebridge is a Canadian Armed Forces Veteran who served in both the Reserve Force and Cadets. For the past 20 years, he has been active in the Hastings and Prince Edward Regimental Association and has held almost all of its executive positions. Mr. Shoebridge has organized regimental reunions and assumed a leadership role in Veterans’ parades and Remembrance Day services. He provides transportation to Veterans for medical appointments and functions, and spends time visiting with them. Mr. Shoebridge is the primary caretaker of the regimental cenotaph and has devoted much of his time and personal money to its maintenance and upkeep. He is the past chair of the Belleville Veterans Council; a united body representing Veterans’ organizations in the area and the driving force for organizing Remembrance Day services, Vimy Ridge Day, Victory in Europe Day, Victory in the Far East Day, Battle of Britain and Battle of the Atlantic parades. In his role as chair, Mr. Shoebridge was intimately involved in the organization and hosting of these commemorative activities and was also an integral motivating force in the construction and dedication of the Veterans Memorial Bridge in Belleville in 2010, honouring Canadian military Veterans. Mr. Shoebridge also initiated the design and placement of Belleville Veterans Council signs at the various entrances into Belleville.
