Laura Salter

Mrs. Salter joined the ladies auxiliary of the Army, Navy, & Air Force Veterans in Canada Unit #393 in 1973. Since that time, Mrs. Salter has held many volunteer positions, including interim President of the Auxiliary. She assisted The Ladies' Auxiliary in providing support to Veterans at the psychiatric wing at Westminster Campus until its closure, when the Veterans were moved to their new home at the Western Counties Wing of Parkwood Hospital, where Mrs. Salter continues to volunteer. She also served as Chairperson for ANAVETS Unit 393 and as a contact to the Western Counties Wing of Parkwood Hospital for more than 20 years. As Chairperson, Mrs. Salter organized bingos, Barbecues, dances, picnics and Christmas dinners. In her last few years, she spearheaded the Christmas bag event for the Veterans where she personally sewed approximately 500 bags and also helped with the preparation of afghan blankets for Veterans. Mrs. Salter continues to attend and assist at as many events as possible for the Veterans who reside at Parkwood.
