As President of The Royal Canadian Legion' New Liskeard Branch No. 33, Mr. Eckensviller has been cited several times for his tireless efforts in ensuring that the Legion remains a vital force in the community. For many years, Mr. Eckensviller and his wife have been visiting Veterans in hospital and those who are confined to their homes. He has been active in the local library for 27 years and was Chairman of the Library Board for more than 18 years. Mr. Eckensviller coordinates many of the town's Legion events. He organizes the Legion's Pipe Band, takes care of the new Liskeard Cenotaph and sees that Veterans graves in the three local cemeteries are appropriately decorated with Canadian flags. Mr. Eckensviller was involved in renaming a local park to the Algonquin Regiment Memorial Beach Park, and was responsible for the erection of the appropriate highway signage indicating its location. Mr. Eckensviller maintains the town's main cenotaph and plays a key role in the annual November 11th commemorative activities, devoting much of his personal time to ensure that the memory of the sacrifice and achievements of Canada's Veterans is kept alive.
