After enlisting in 1937, Leonard Baxter served with both the Canadian Army and Air Force during the Second World War. Following the war, Mr. Baxter earned his Bachelor of Science degree. Mr. Baxter has been a loyal and dedicated member of the Royal Canadian Legion for the past 50 years. He has served on the executive of Galt Branch No. 121 and he has taken on other duties including conducting surveys on long term care. He assisted numerous Veterans and their dependents in applying and obtaining pensions and other benefits. He is currently devoting his time and energy to establishing a Veterans Hospital and Home in the Waterloo Region. Mr. Baxter has been steadfast in honouring the service and sacrifice of Canada’s Veterans. He continues to be heavily involved in the annual Poppy Campaign and he represents Veterans at memorial ceremonies. As well, he visits schools throughout the year to speak to children about his wartime experiences. He also successfully arranged for Veterans to receive free bus passes in the Region of Waterloo.
