A Veteran of the Korean War, Mr. Peate has been cited for his many contributions to the welfare of Veterans. He has been National President of the Korean Veterans Association and vice-president of the National Council of Veteran Associations in Canada for several years. Mr. Peate has worked tirelessly as an advocate on behalf of Veterans and their concerns. He has actively promoted international cooperation and dialogue between Veterans in Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom. A loyal member of The Royal Canadian Legion for many years, Mr. Peate has been involved with several heritage initiatives, including Canada's Tomb of The Unknown Soldier, for which he was awarded the Head of the Public Service Award for 2000. He is a staff writer with Esprit de Corps magazine and has written and published numerous articles about Veterans and military history. Mr. Peate's exemplary record of public service encompasses work as a liaison officer for the Army Cadet League (Ontario) and contributions to numerous charities and associations.
