Leslie Deane

Mr. Deane retired as a Colonel for the Canadian Forces after serving for 37 years. He has devoted countless hours of volunteer service in numerous charitable and non-profit organizations to promote the welfare and commemoration of Canada's Veterans. Among the groups Colonel Deane has assisted are the British Columbia Corps of Commissionaires, the Last Post Fund, the Canadian Gurkha Appeal, the Army Cadet League of Canada, The Royal Westminster Regiment Historical Society the Honorary Colonels' Council of Canada and the St. John Ambulance Cadet Program. As a Governor of the Corps of Commissionaires, Colonel Deane has been involved in seeking new and diversified types of employment for Veterans so that they would be assured of continuing employment in a rapidly changing work force. As a Director and former President of the Last Post Fund, Colonel Deane has taken a special interest in developing a program to provide grave markers for 1200 previously unmarked Veterans' graves.

Colonel Deane has served on the National Executive of the Army Cadet League of Canada for 20 years, including a term as National President. He is especially active in sending cadets on cultural exchanges and equipping cadet bands. As Provincial Cadet Officer for St. John Ambulance Cadets, he teaches leadership, citizenship and community service. Colonel Deane has dedicated his retirement years to ensure that Veterans have satisfying employment, adequate housing and a dignified burial. His devotion to their cause is well known in the community.
