Mrs. Mader is the spouse of Korean War Veteran, Douglas Mader, who served in Korea as a medic. She is a volunteer and dedicated member of the Korea Veterans Association of Canada, Manitoba Unit 17 (KVA Unit 17) where she has held the positions of Secretary and Treasurer for many years. Mrs. Mader was also the associate editor of the KVA Unit 17 newsletter “The Rice Paddy,” entertainment coordinator and commemorative events organizer. Mrs. Mader also volunteers her time visiting Veterans at Deer Lodge Centre, and assisting Veterans of Hong Kong and Korea with daily coffee breaks, shopping, attending medical appointments, preparing and writing correspondence for them. She also ensures that Veterans receive their medals. Mrs. Mader works with The Korean Senior Association of Manitoba and the Korean community, encouraging and building a strong relationship between the two communities. Mrs. Mader is a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.
