Lt-Cdr (ret'd) Sid R. Wallace KStJ, CD

A Veteran of the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) who served during the Second World War, Mr. Wallace's career in the RCN Medical Service spans more than 27 years. A staunch supporter of Veterans' well-being, Mr. Wallace worked tirelessly on the Veterans Task Force to advocate the need for a new Veterans Health Care Centre, to replace the old existing Colonel Belcher Veterans Care Centre, in Calgary. In 1998, the Alberta Provincial Government together with the Calgary Health Region and the Calgary Health Trust announced the construction of the Colonel Belcher Veterans Care Centre. As founder and active member of the Friends of the Colonel Belcher Committee, Mr. Wallace organized a major capital fund raising campaign to fund enhancements to the new Carewest Colonel Belcher Veterans Care Centre. Through his dedication, $2 million were raised to fund quality of life enhancement at the new care centre. Mr. Wallace held several high level positions on numerous committees, boards and directorships, and received several awards in recognition of his stalwart service. Mr. Wallace is well-known for his work associated with the development of the new Colonel Belcher Care Centre and for his outstanding commitment and undying support of Veterans and their cause.
