Margaret Guildford

Mrs. Margaret Guildford is Veteran of the Second World War. As a Nursing Sister, she was stationed in England and following D-Day, she worked in frontline hospitals in the Netherlands and Germany. After her release in 1945, she continued her nursing career well into her 70s. Mrs. Guildford has been a committed and active member of the Halifax Chapter of the Nursing Sisters Association of Canada for the past 28 years and is currently serving her tenth year as President. During this time, she has continued to assist other Nursing Sisters in obtaining benefits and services to which they are entitled while also providing leadership to other Second World War members and those who served during the Cold War era. As a long time member of The Royal Canadian Legion, Mrs. Guildford has spoken to numerous students over the years about the significant role of Canadian Nursing Sisters. In 2011, the Nova Scotia College of Registered Nurses presented Mrs. Guildford with their Centennial Award of Distinction for her service to Canada during and after the Second World War. She recently received the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal.
