Ms. Marie Blackburn is currently a volunteer with the Veterans Association Food Bank in Calgary run by Veterans with volunteer support from the community. In this new volunteer work, she uses years of experience gained working with a previous Veterans Food Bank run by The Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund in Calgary. In her new role, Ms. Blackburn supervises the volunteers and helps coordinate the pickup of food donated to the food bank and ensures the food is sorted and packed. She also oversees the procurement and distribution of mobility aids for Veterans and widows, such as walkers, canes and wheelchairs.
In her personal time, Ms. Blackburn attends numerous functions promoting remembrance and the food bank. She volunteers her time to escort Veterans and widows to doctor appointments and commemorative events. She is also very active in the annual Remembrance Day services and the Poppy Campaign in Calgary.
