Mrs. Schmidt is the daughter of a Second World War Veteran. She has been a very active member of Branch #362 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 22 years, and is currently serving her fourth term as President. Mrs. Schmidt was on the Membership Committee for three years and has also been the Secretary, Treasurer and Manager of the Legion Manor since 1993. She has been treasurer, secretary, second vice-president, first vice-president and is currently serving her third term as the Branch's president. She is the first female to assume that role. Mrs. Schmidt has participated in numerous Legion committees including the Last Post Fund, the Poppy Campaign, the War Memorial Fund Committee, chair of the 75th Anniversary Committee, chair of weekly bingos and fund-raising committees. As part of her work with the Last Post Fund, Mrs. Schmidt and others were successful in ensuring unmarked graves were properly identified at Woodlawn Cemetery. She drives Veterans to and from commemorative functions and as a daughter of a Veteran, has talked to school children about the contributions of those who served in the Second World War. In addition to her volunteer work within the Legion, Mrs. Schmidt has also volunteered with the Canadian Diabetes Association, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, and the Salvation Army. Mrs. Schmidt is devoted to Veterans and to her community.
