Mrs. Mel Pageot has been a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 40 years and a Life Member since 2009. She has served on the Executive for over 20 years, most notably as Chairperson of the Poppy Fund for over 17 years. Through devotion and great organizational skills, the funds increased annually.
Mrs. Pageot has also been a volunteer at the Deer Lodge Veterans Hospital for over 18 years, where she would spend four hours twice weekly to accompany the Veterans on outings and also ran “Chad’s Bar” as required. She hosted Wednesday evening bingos and recruited volunteers from the Legion Branch to buy and prepare food for the bingo events.
She had a helping hand in starting the Branch’s “Adopt-a-Veteran” program where members of the Branch, along with 17 Wing in Winnipeg, would visit and deliver Christmas gifts to Veterans in various care facilities in the area.
She continues to be active in her local Branch as a member of the Colour Party and a member of the Seniors’ Club Executive.
