Michael Andrew Bauman

Ayr, Ontario

Mr. Michael Andrew Bauman has been assisting Veterans and Canadian Armed Forces personnel for a number of years by making and presenting them with walking sticks in appreciation of their service to Canada. Mr. Bauman learned this trade from Second World War Veteran Bill Miller at a young age, and he has been creating these special walking sticks ever since. This task has served a dual purpose for Mr. Bauman—it provides him a way to recognize Canada’s Veterans and military personnel and serves as a beneficial therapy for him personally.

Over the last several years, Mr. Bauman has made walking sticks for hundreds of Veterans and military personnel. He has travelled to military bases, Legion branches and other places to personally present the walking sticks. Some of Mr. Bauman’s most memorable presentations were to Veterans of the Dieppe Raid at the 70th anniversary ceremony at the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry monument in 2012, the First Special Service Force 67th reunion in Windsor in 2013, the First Special Service Force 70th reunion, and the 10th reunion of Canadian Special Operations Regiment in Petawawa.
