Michael Comeau

Mr. Comeau is a Canadian Forces Veteran who served in three peacekeeping missions before retiring from the military in 1979. While serving as provincial director of the Canadian Association of Veterans in United Nations Peacekeeping (CANVUP), he helped found the Central Ontario Chapter of CANVUP and assisted in successfully lobbying the provincial legislature for the Ontario Proclamation of Peacekeepers' Day in 2005. While president of the Central Ontario Chapter, Mr. Comeau provided leadership to committees who were successful in having highway 90 named "Peacekeepers' Way," and in obtaining and naming a park from Essa Township "Peacekeepers' Park." He assisted in a successful fundraising campaign to purchase and erect a Peacekeepers' Memorial stone, which was installed in Peacekeepers' Park on August 9, 2008. Mr. Comeau is also a member of The Royal Canadian Legion where he has served as service officer, continues to serve in the Colour Party and plans to run for the role of Sergeant-at-Arms in the near future. Mr. Comeau was presented the ICROSS Canada Humanitarian Award in 2005 by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario.
