Michael Gray

Mr. Gray has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion in Omemee for more than 25 years. He served in a number of executive positions, including president and zone officer. He has helped to organize poppy campaigns, the Victory in Europe (VE) 50 Parade and the 125 Parade, and he was a member of the National Capital Committee for VE 50. He also organizes the Warriors’ Day Parade for Legion members. Mr. Gray worked on various projects such as raising funds for the Juno Beach Museum, serving as a gallery re-enactor at the Canadian War Museum, and giving school lectures for the Memorial Military Museum. He helped to conduct research on his local cenotaph for The Royal Canadian Legion branch archives and, as a member of the Omemee Historical Society, he organizes displays and gives lectures. He has assisted Veterans in recording their oral history, and he locates and decorates local Veterans’ gravesites. Mr. Gray has assisted with Ontario Regiment displays as well as Legion anniversary displays. He also visits Veterans in local hospitals. In recognition of his work on behalf of Veterans and of his commitment to commemorate their service, Mr. Gray received the Governor General’s Award for Canada Remembers in 1995, and the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal in 2003.
